At Mountains Make Scents, our vision is to hand craft products that bring together the comfort of the mountains with a commitment to quality, safety, and skin health. As a small batch maker, we believe what touches your skin and fills your home should be created with intention and care. Our soaps retain their natural glycerin, an important element for maintaining healthy, moisturized skin. We source Fragrance and Essential oils only from reputable suppliers whose products are tested and proven safe for skin, and we strictly follow all IFRA guidelines for Fragrance and Essential oil percentages. Every batch of candles we pour are personally tested to ensure our customers receive a candle that is not only beautifully scented but also safe to enjoy in their homes. Through thoughtful craftsmanship and trusted ingredients, we strive to create products that customers feel confident using every day.

Mountains Make Scents
We’re Ryan and Tammy Rushton, the heart behind Mountains Make Scents.
Both of us grew up in the Riverton and Herriman areas of Utah, where our roots were planted and our love for family and the outdoors began. Years later, we made the decision to move our little family to East Idaho, eventually settling in Blackfoot after spending nine wonderful years in Idaho Falls. It’s here that our three children grew up, built their own lives, and married their amazing spouses—blessing us with seven beautiful grandchildren who are now the center of our world.
Ryan has dedicated the past 43 years to working with Fred Meyer and currently serves as a store director. His strong work ethic and commitment have been a steady foundation for our family. I (Tammy) spent 17 years in dental assisting before retiring to embrace one of my favorite roles—being a grandma.
But retirement didn’t mean slowing down.
After stepping away from my career, I found myself searching for something that would spark creativity, build connections, and bring a sense of purpose outside the home. That’s when the idea for Mountains Make Scents was born—a way to create something meaningful while sharing my love for the mountains, beautiful scents, and handmade goods.

When we’re not pouring candles or creating soaps, you’ll most likely find us where we feel most at home—outdoors. We love camping, hiking, hunting, and spending as much time as we can with our family surrounded by the beauty of the mountains that continue to inspire everything we create.
